Tracking Changes

Being a person who supports computer users day in and day out I have seen all sorts of situations where users could utilize software solutions more effectively.

Here is one such situation:

One of my coworkers was working on a multimedia presentation for her boss. This presentation was for a perspective client and there was a lot of pressure to make it perfect. She was committed to do everything she could to make this presentation a “knock out of the park”.

After working long hours making it just right she presented the finished product to her boss.  Not surprising at all, he came back with several suggestions to make the presentation “better”.  Following the boss’ direction she made the suggested changes he wanted and returned the presentation to him. To her disappointment his response was that he preferred the original finished product and she should change most of it back.

It looked like she was going to cry.

Why you ask?

She ended up having to redo a bunch of work because she did not have a backup and she saved over top of her original file with the updated changes. If only she had a program that would track changes she would not have had to redo all that work.

Lesson learned.

When I'm at work, we ALWAYS use trackchanges in our word documents...its a lifesaver. Amber :)
