Make Time For Simple Pleasures

Simple pleasures – those words have brought new meaning to my life in the past 6 months. It’s been almost 6 months since my family made the decision to live a healthy lifestyle. Want to know how we are doing with the changes? Keep reading…

When our family started this health journey our focus was on eating healthy, real food. About 2 months after we started our healthy eating, I found out that I had an autoimmune disease. At that time I had to cut out some of my favorite healthy foods like nuts, eggs, dairy and nightshades (potatoes, peppers, tomatoes etc to name a few). Although I had to give up these additional foods, I knew I would have to adapt to having them around because it was important to me that my husband and daughters still have those healthy foods.

I have been lucky enough that eggs and nuts have been reintroduced  successfully, but dairy and nightshades are still on the no list for me. Even though I can not have those foods, I continue to make homemade yogurt for my family, serve potatoes to them and of course have cheese ready for a quick and healthy snack. I have always been a lover of cheese, so even though I can not eat it, I am glad that I can serve it to my family and friends.

I love sharing pictures of the food I eat, and the food I serve to my family, on Instagram. In the coming months I will be participating in the “All You Need is Cheese” online Instagram campaign called “Make time for simple pleasures”. I may share some of the fun lovable lunches I make for my girls or the ways my husband adds cheese to some of his healthy meals…

For those of you wanting to know how we are feeling and adjusting to this healthy lifestyle, both Trevor and I are feeling better than we have in years. We are spending more time enjoying the simple pleasures of life and are happy.  Trevor is carrying around 35 less pounds and I have 60 less pounds to lug around. Although weight loss was never our focus, we can see how how having less weight improves our lives. I do plan to share before and after pictures one day on the blog, so be sure to keep checking back for that.

Dairy Farmers of Canada was sensitive and understanding that I can not myself eat cheese, they loved seeing my pictures of how my family enjoys cheese, so having them offer me cheese from DFC was a natural fit for me to partner together with them for the #simplepleasures campaign.

Great article, you guys are doing all of the right things!! My husband (who has always been a little better at eating and exercising than I am...) and I have started making an effort to eat whole foods. We have completely cut out any added sugar, and as a result I have lost 40lbs. POOF! Just like that! No gimmicky diets, no pills, no insane exercise. It's amazing what happens when you give your body only good things :)
