It is the afternoon as I sit here and write this. That wonderful time in the afternoon that is in-between that delightful lunch with my kids and supper with my husband. The afternoon is when I usually sit down to hammer out some blog posts and answer a few e-mails. The afternoon, always seems to be accompanied by a little friend — The Afternoon Slump.
We’ve all been there. Our mind starts to wander, we feel like taking a nap, and get nothing done. So what can you do to get past that afternoon slump?
#1) Stand Up & Stretch — With a quick look in the internet you can find a few easy stretches are that going to relieve the tension and tightness in your muscles from sitting in a chair all day.
#2) Go for a walk — Even just a few few minutes off of your chair can help your body feel ready to tackle your next load of work. If you work from home, why not take a quick stroll around the block? Or if you work in an office, take a trip to the bathroom or a quick walk to and from the lunch room.
#3) Grab a snack — My husband always brings a snack to work to have during the afternoon when that slump hits. Kellogg’s makes some fantastic snacks are are perfect to grab with you when you walk out the door or to have in your desk drawer at work. Peanut Protein Bars from Vector provide you with a high performance snack that helps keep you fueled for your active lifestyle. All-Bran Blueberry Brown Sugar Cereal Bars help you keep up with your recommended fibre in-take on the go. Special K Popcorn Chips help you satisfy your chip and popcorn cravings with a buttery popcorn taste with only 80 calories for 20 chips!
#4) Brew yourself a cup of tea — Or coffee, or pour your beverage of choice. Getting that little dose of extra caffiene during the day will give your mind and body that little pick me up it needs to concentrate on your next project.
#5) Take a Sanity break — if your office allows! Read a comic, check Facebook, or read a newspaper article. Sometimes taking a 5 minute break to focus on something different than what you were working on, will rejuvinate your mind and perhaps even give you some fresh ideas.

I find it hard to stay awake in the afternoon I do the famous head bobbing I am awake look. Thank you for giving me some things to try instead of taking a nap( even though I do love my naps lol) which is not good for me.

I find the sanity break helps the most - if at all possible I get up and get outside for a few minutes :)

mmm, tea. I had forgotten all about the joys of an afternoon cuppa. Now if I can just get little one to learn about naps maybe I can reincorporate that into my day :)Otherwise I just wait until daddy comes home and take a quick nap
