Eco-Savvy “Picks” from The Healthy Shopper & $150 Prize Pack #Giveaway

Like most families I am always looking for the best way to live. I want to live a healthy lifestyle, but as a busy parent I need convenience at times too. This is becoming easier since there are many great products that can help my family to eat healthier while having less of an impact on the environment and people around me.  Let me take some time to share with you about some of the amazing products that are out there and easy to find.

The Healthy Shopper was founded in 1999 by Randy Boyer and Andrea Donsky to encourage Canadians to pursue and maintain a naturally healthy lifestyle. The Healthy Shopper Coupon Book enables consumers to buy high-quality natural and organic products at more affordable prices.  They’re also authors of the book “Unjunk Your Junk Food,” released this past December, and now their latest venture “The Healthy Shopper Picks for  Spring 2012”, is  just another way these ladies are helping Canadians make better choices.

The Healthy Shopper Picks for Spring 2012 include:
We have been using the Ecover laundry soap for a few weeks and have been happy with the results. I personally love that it is scent free and has not bothered my daughters sensitive skin. The soap seems to be very gentle yet works well to get our clothes clean.  Like all Ecover products, the Laundry Wash is biodegradable.  Ecover makes a great line of products including dishwasher tabs, household cleaners, personal care items and even car care products for the guys.  My husband thought that was pretty cool! Be sure to check them out.

Ecover, is a plant and mineral-based cleaning collection.  All Ecover products are phosphate-free, safe for septic tanks and not tested on animals.  Its dishwashing soap and laundry detergent are packaged in 100% PlantPlastic, an innovative new PolyEthylene, or green plastic, made from sugar cane so it’s 100% renewable, reusable and recyclable.  www.ecover.com/ca/en

When it comes to cooking we all know that vegetables are essential for maintaining good health, but we often fall short of getting all of our daily vegetable requirements.  Simply Natural has a line of pasta/tomato sauces that are simply amazing.  These sauces are made from all organic ingredients and are just plain good, they are a hit with our family and even our extended family has started purchasing them!  That really speaks for itself…They are good.  Simply heat them up and pour it over your favorite organic pasta and you have a meal that will please anyone.  With several varieties to choose from, you will find a sauce that is right for your meal tonight.

For pasta sauce, The Healthy Shopper chose Simply Natural made by Chelten House.  All Chelten House pasta sauces are certified organic by Quality Assurance International (QAI) and USDA Organic.  All of its products contain only the finest, freshest organic vegetables and herbs; all grown and processed without hormones, pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers, insecticides, genetic manipulation or antibacterial radiation.   www.cheltenhouse.com/content.cfm?mode=sn_products

When it comes to feminine hygiene products I have never really thought about looking for a natural type. When I thought of natural, I imagined pads that would have to be washed and reused which is not really something that I was into trying so these fit more into my convenient lifestyle. I must say that for an everyday type panty liner Natracare is great. I would actually consider purchasing them again.

For ladies, The Healthy Shopper’s Spring 2012 Pick is Natracare feminine hygiene products, chosen over other feminine hygiene products because they’re organic and chemical-free.  All Natracare products are made using only certified organic 100% cotton and natural cellulose materials, they’re 100% plastic-free and free of chlorine as well as being bio-degradable and compostable.  www.natracare.com

Earth Balance, a producer of an award winning line of buttery spreads, sticks, shortening, a soy-free spread and coconut spread; all delicious alternatives to butter and margarine.  All Earth Balance products are plant-based, vegan, made without artificial ingredients or hydrogenated oils, are dairy and cholesterol-free and free of gluten, lactose and eggs. www.earthbalancenatural.com

We were not able to find any of these products in our local community, but I look forward to picking some up when we go to the city.  I like that they do not have artificial ingredients, and for times when I want to use something other than butter, this may be a good fit.

The final selection for The Healthy Shopper Spring 2012 Picks is Kiju 100% certified organic juices.  These are pure juices made from organically grown fruit.  Launched on Earth Day 2005, Kiju was Canada’s first certified organic juice box without any added sugar.   Its fruit juice flavours include mango orange, lemonade, grape apple, apple and pomegranate cherry.  This year, Kiju is launching its first group of natural and organic iced teas.  The tea flavours not to be missed are Pomegranate Green Tea, Mango Passion Maté, and Hibiscus Rooibos. www.kiju.ca

I must say that these juices will definitely be regular items on our grocery list. I love the flavor varieties and that they have no added sugar. We do not have juice on a daily basis, but when we do have it, this will be our juice of choice. I may have to hide them from my husband because he could go through them an an insanely high speed!

I am SO excited that one of my Mommy Moment readers will get to try out these Eco-Savvy “Picks” from The Healthy Shopper. The winner will receive a prize pack (arv $150)
