Teaching kids to pack their own lunch {ECOlunchbox #Giveaway}

Kids Eco lunchbox

School lunches are a hot topic among many parents. Whether it’s what to pack, what kind of containers to buy or how to save time on an already busy morning, I’ve heard it all.

In this post I’m going to give you a few tips on how you can teach your child to pack their own lunch for school.

teaching kids to pack lunch

#1 – The first tip I have is to find a container that your child can open and close on their own. You will want to look for something durable, safe and also something your child will like. Kate (7) and Jane (5) have been practicing making their own school lunches using ECOlunchbox. I love that the lunch box is compact and easy to open and close even for little fingers.

#2 – Have the lunch containers easy accessible. I put the ECOlunchboxes in a drawer at my kids level. So far we have been practicing making the lunches in the evening, and as the girls get faster at it they will be able to pack their lunch in the morning before school.

#3 – Be prepared. I have a checklist so that my girls know they need to pack a main item and at least 1 fruit and 1 vegetable selection. I have 1 shelf in the fridge and 1 shelf in the cupboard with all the school lunch options ready for them to choose from.

In this lunch Kate has packed a meat and lettuce wrap, carrots and hummus, crackers and cheese along with bean salad and a banana on the side.

Teaching kids to pack their own lunch takes a bit of time at the beginning, but it ends up saving parents a lot of time in the long run.

We still have almost a month before school starts again, so it is the perfect time to practice with your children.
