If you live in Canada, you’ve most likely enjoyed a Poutine. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this popular Canadian food, Poutine is basically french fries smothered in cheese and gravy. There are many variations of poutine that include everything from fried onions to corn beef and more. When I went to Old Montreal there were actually a number of eateries that specialized in making dozens of different twists on this popular French Canadian dish.
Over the years my husband has come up with all kinds of his own poutine spin-offs. His guy friends can’t get enough of this poutine/hotdog combination.
Poutine Dog
What happens when you mix the popular Canadian poutine and a regular hot dog? You get a Poutine dog!
Ingredients
- Hotdog bun
- Smokies/weiner
- Bothwell squeak'rs (cheese curds)
- Hickory sticks (hickory flavored potato sticks)
- Gravy
- Green Onions (chopped)
Instructions
- Cook your smokies/weiner however you like.
- Place it on your hotdog bun.
- Add a generous handful of Hickory sticks over your hotdog.
- Add a handful of Bothwell squeak'rs.
- Now cover with piping hot gravy, sprinkle on some chopped green onions and enjoy.
Although poutine can be made with a variety of cheeses from different flavors to shredded varieties, to me, a poutine is not a poutine without the squeaky Bothwell cheese curds (Squeak’rs) our family has grown up with.
So tell me, have you ever tried poutine?
Have you ever tried Bothwell Squeak’rs?
(One of my favorite recipes using Bothwell Cheese is Baked Macaroni and Cheese)
