MUST HAVE ITEMS FOR A FAMILY BEACH DAY

The summer weather is coming, and many are planning a family beach day getaway to celebrate.

Many people love the beach but let’s be honest, staring at the water with your rear end parked in the sand can go sour quickly.

Especially if you don’t have the right equipment and you have kids involved.

The good news is that when you have the right items for a family beach day, your beach getaway can be a positive one.

All you need are a few things to get the party started.

BEACH UMBRELLA

Get some protection from the hot sun while building your sand castle or reading a book.  A large beach umbrella is also a good for taking a break while eating lunch or taking a nap.

BEACH TOWELS

Large beach towels to lie on or to dry off with after your swim is a must.  Choose bright colored towels to add some more fun to your family beach day.

SUNSCREEN

This is one of the most important things to bring along on your family beach day. Protecting yourself and your kids from harmful UV rays with sunscreen will make your beach day more fun, and not have you worrying about the day after sunburn. Our family personally uses mineral-based sunscreen. We have used the one from Aveeno and Attitude.

SAND PAILS OR BUCKETS

Build all the sand castles you can. You can even have a sand castle building challenge to see who can build the biggest one.

COOLER

You will need a cooler to keep your beverages and snacks as cool and fresh. To avoid the cooler becoming warm, make sure to place it under your beach umbrella with plenty of ice packs.

SHOVEL

You can’t dig an amazing moat around your sandcastle without a small shovel.  Kids will also love making “pools” by digging holes and dumping water into them.

WATER

Just as it is important to remember sunscreen, it is also VERY important to stay hydrated at the beach. Lots of water will help prevent heat stroke and sick bodies.  As a bonus, you can use fresh water to wash sandy feet before getting into the car.

BLANKET

Having a blanket ready for a picnic or way to keep little ones warm is great.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

At the end of your family beach day, you will want to change out of your wet, sandy clothes. Don’t forget this important step to avoid wet car seats.

BEACH CHAIRS

Foldable chairs that are easy to transport are a great idea to bring to the beach. Why not have different lounge options?

RADIO

Having tunes at the beach is always a great idea! Who doesn’t want to dance in the sand?

BOOKS & MAGAZINES

The beach is a fantastic place to catch up on your reading. Don’t forget to bring the kids some books too in the event they need a little downtime.

FLIP FLOPS

This doesn’t need an explanation. Flip flops are must have beach attire.  It will keep your little one’s feet safe from sharp rocks and debris if you are exploring the beach or need to run to the restroom.

SUNGLASSES

Even though you love the sun, no one loves it in their eyes.  In fact, protecting your eyes from the sun is just as important as protecting your skin from the harmful rays.

BEACH TOTE

A large beach tote is a great way to easily transport all your items. Just make sure the tote is equipped with a zipper to keep out the sand, and wipeable.

TOYS

The beach is one of the most ideal spots to fly a kite or throw around a football.  Don’t forget to bring some extra toys along for some added fun.

WIPES

Wet wipes are the perfect tool to wipe sandy hands before you have a snack.

SNACKS

Everyone gets munchy at the beach! Don’t forget to pack some delicious and healthy snacks.

CASH

There are many different vendors that can appear at the beach. Don’t be stuck without cash and wanting to grab an ice cream cone but have no cash.

FIRST AID KIT

Sometimes cuts and scrapes can occur on your beach getaway. Make sure to bring a first aid kit for those unexpected bumps and cuts.

The beach can be a fantastic place to visit with your family. Just don’t forget to take the essentials with you to get the best out of your trip.
