Picnics, whether planned or spur of the moment, are a great way to spend time together as a family.  And with a few picnic essentials planning, executing and enjoying your picnic that much easier.

PICNIC BLANKET

This may sound obvious, but a good picnic blanket can make all the difference. Choose one that is thick and comfortable, but also has a waterproof barrier. This will help to keep you dry if the grass is a little damp.

PICNIC BASKET

It is important to pick a great picnic basket with lots of space for food and drinks. It will make transporting your food items a lot easier.

COOLER

A large cooler for perishable items is a good idea. It will help to keep food items cold and beverages chilled and refreshing.

FOOD STORAGE CONTAINERS

Making sure that you have good food storage containers is an important aspect of any picnic. Good containers will help you to transport leftovers home without a mess.

REUSABLE DISHES

Having picnic specific plastic plates and cups is a great way to save money and take better care of the environment.

UTENSILS

Forks, knives, and spoons. Don’t forget the items you may need to be able to eat all that delicious picnic foods.  You can buy disposable utensils or plastic reusable ones to stick in your picnic basket.

NAPKINS

Don’t forget to pack the napkins. Especially if you will be having kids at your picnic.

SUNGLASSES

Who wants to have a picnic with the sun shining in their eyes?  Have eyewear protection for the whole family will make the day more fun.

Summer Picnic Essentials for the family

SUNSCREEN

Pack sunscreen to ensure that you protect your skin from harmful UV rays and that no one will become sunburned.

HATS

Chances are you aren’t going to go out on a picnic when it is raining and cloudy.  Making sure that everyone has hats on a warm, sunny day is a great way to stay happy and healthy.

OUTDOOR TOYS

Having a ball, a kite, or any other outdoor toy, on a picnic can mean hours of entertainment for attendees.

WET WIPES

Wet wipes are a great way to get everyone cleaned up after eating when sinks and soaps aren’t available.  Wet wipes make cleaning sticky fingers easy!

TRASH BAGS

Make sure to take a garbage bag for any trash or food waste.  That way you don’t have to worry about leaving garbage behind or having it blow away on you.

FOLDING CHAIRS

Bringing folding lawn chairs to a picnic is a good idea, especially if some people attending may have troubling getting down on the ground.

CONDIMENTS

Don’t forget the condiments! They are a key component to a great picnic.  Try to stay away from things that spoil easily like mayonnaise and cheese.

INSECT REPELLANT

This one goes without saying! Who wants to worry about warding off bugs while they are enjoying their meal?  Bringing insect repellant for everyone in the family will help keep those pests at bay.

BOTTLE OPENER

Packing a bottle opener can be more beneficial than you think sometimes. Often times bottle openers can be used to help open cans and other bottled items.

FIRST AID KIT

Make sure you are prepared for cuts and scrapes. You never know which child will fall while climbing a treat or get a bee sting.  Having a first aid kit along will prepare you for any minor ailment.

ICE PACKS / ICE

Keep your food and drinks nice and cold with ice packs and/or ice.

CAMERA

You are going to want to make sure you take pictures of your wonderful picnic.  These pictures will make looking back at fun memories easier.

Having an amazing picnic doesn’t have to be complicated. Just remember to make a list of your picnic essentials and have them ready to go. You will be enjoying a wonderful picnic in no time.
