Inside my body theme

The children worked well during the work period today. They were excited to start their work. Here are some of the things we did…

G picked the sandpaper letter “a” for review.
When he was done I introduced the coffee tray to him. We have used sand before, but the children are always excited for something new so we used coffee grounds.
We talked about the inside of the body. We talked about our brain and how our brain tells us what to do. (ex. Jump up and down, tap our foot etc)
I rubbed each child gently on the back and told them about their vertebrae and how vertebrae are bones that keep our spinal cord protected.
(Snow White got this cool foam anatomy puzzle for her birthday, I think you can find them at Dollorama).
Then we made this cool skeleton craft. The children used a paintbrush to put glue on the lines I had on the paper. Then they placed the pasta, coffee beans, and sunflower seeds where they belonged on the paper.

Snow White saw these new opposite cards (near/far, day/night, young/old, open/closed) on the shelf and asked how to use them so we used these cards and then expanded on the idea by saying as many opposite words as we could.

I also spoke to a chiropractor who is going to come in to talk with the children about the function and importance of the spine. I think the children make even get the chance to touch a model spine.

After the work period was over Snow White also worked with number rods and counters and we enjoyed some time looking at books/reading together.
