Fall is in full swing which means the kids are back in school, back at their fall activities, and moms are back in the normal routine of the school year. With a switch in seasons, it can be difficult to get back into a routine. For me, summer is a time of outdoor fun and a little more indulgence when it comes to food. Fall is my time to get back on track and make sure that I am eating better.
But can you eat healthy while on the go? We have one evening out of the week where the kids activities all collide. Every 30 minutes I am running one kid to an activity and picking up another. During these crazy days, parents often don’t eat supper or we tend to grab something from a drive through window. Is there a better option?
I say YES! Here are 3 tips that help with healthy eating on the go:
#1) Menu Plan! I menu plan every week and it has not only saved my lunches and suppers but has made my life A LOT less stressful. Every week, our sale flyers come out on Thursday. I sit down at the table with my meal plan calendar, sales flyers and recipe binder and plan healthy, home-cooked meals around the products that are on sale the next week. (Planning your meals around sale items, will also help you save some money and enjoy season fresh foods.)
#2) Brew Your Own Tea or Coffee! Instead of running to the coffee shop and purchasing a sugar-full flavored drink, save some money and brew your own tea or coffee. Invest is a great travel mug to keep your favorite beverage hot or cold.
#3) Don’t Skip Lunch or Supper! Many people feel that skipping meals on busy days is no big deal. But skipping a meal, even while running from place to place, can make your metabolism and blood sugar levels move out of the healthy levels for your body. Is there healthy, and convenient ways to grab lunch and supper on the go? You bet!
