Don’t Let Brown Bananas Go To Waste – Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie

Do you often find that you have bananas going brown on the counter?  Don’t let them go to waste, just pop them into your freezer to use another day in a Smoothie!

As warmer weather has set in and the end of year is approaching my kids are arriving home from school “starving”, nosing around for something to eat.  Left to their own devices they’d choose unhealthy options and I’d end up dealing with a child on a sugar rush.

To prepare for the dire post-school hunger I’ve taken to freezing my fruits as they begin to edge past the fresh stage.  As long as I have milk or Greek yogurt on hand I can whip up a healthy fruit smoothie in minutes!

One of our current favorites is a Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie.  It’s packed with delicious goodness and protein which makes me feel good about it as a filling snack choice.

Banana Vanilla Peanut Butter Smoothie

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup of milk
  2. 1 banana
  3. 2/3 cup peanut butter
  4. 2 tablespoons vanilla
  5. 1-1/2 cup ice

Preparation:

  1. Combine all ingredients into blender and pulse on high for 15 seconds until you reach your desired consistency
  2. Pour into desired glass and garnish with banana slice

There it is, the simple solution that saves you throwing out fruit and satisfies anyone looking for a delicious snack.

Yum! Good way to clear the guilt of getting rid of ripe, ripe bananas. You can only make so much banana bread & muffins.
