Too Much T.V

by Carly,

I am a home body. As much as I love girls nights out and parties. I feel most comfortable when I am home with my little family enjoying each others company. It is the simple things that make being home most enjoyable.

While I would love to say that it is always like a Hallmark commercial full of perfect bliss at my house, sometimes these family moments can totally blow up in my face. Within minutes my girls could be screaming and fighting about something or another acting like the worst most possible thing in the world has happened because one of them is wearing one of the others silly bands. They have a million how can they really tell who’s is who’s?. What do I do when this happens? I really don’t know!

Lately I have been trying some things to make our house a little bit more peaceful. First of all the t.v used to be on a lot. My Kids were watching too much T.V. That noise can get overwhelming especially when no one is even watching the thing! Or worse when a particular annoying show is on and everyone has left the room and I realize I am the only one enthralled with the silly kid’s show. (I hope I am not the only one who does this!)

A few months ago my husband and I decided that on Sundays we would not turn on the T.V at all. I was nervous this was going to make it the longest day of my life. We still do let the girls play on the computer, but no T.V. It is amazing how much nicer it is with just the T.V off. With this happening every Sunday it has actually decreased are overall t.v viewing because we all forget to turn it on the next day!

This helps our Sunday be so much more of a family day and makes it easier to get ready for church and less distracting. It is funny that something so small could make such a difference. If only we could make some of my daughter’s toys with annoying sounds never turn on again! Imagine the peace from that!

My my I salute you on the no TV days. I don't think I could ever survive! Being a homebody too. I love being home. Shopping and going out is great but i am a happy person at home. All the comforts of home can't be found outside. Haha....no you're not alone when it comes to watching silly kid's shows. I do that too (no kids here) but I now turn off the TV when using the computer. Or, I mute those awful ads!

My son just recently started watching t.v and while I welcome the free time I get to myself, I really hate that he's glued to the t.v.I allow him to watch one sesame street episode and one scooby doo episode and that's it.
