TIPS TO BECOME A MORE INTENTIONAL PARENT

Being a more intentional parent is really the best way to connect with your kids.  While some people see parenting as more of a job than anything else, that doesn’t really seem accurate.

In fact, parenting should be seen more as a relationship that takes self-sacrifice, thought, love and intentionality than a job.

This means becoming a more intentional parent is a great way to really connect with them.

WHAT DOES BEING AN INTENTIONAL PARENT MEAN?

When you become a more intentional parent, you are more aware when it comes to the methods you use.

Being an intentional parent means being conscious, deliberate and calculated in the way that you parent.

This causes us to become less reactive and more responsive. Intentional parenting means that everyone in your family feels heard and understood, building a deeper connection.

HOW TO BECOME A MORE INTENTIONAL PARENT

MAKE TIME

Take into consideration what your family routine looks like.

It is important to have time that you use to truly connect with your little ones.

Moments that offer you the opportunity to truly be present and parenting with purpose can be big moments or small moments, all that matters is that you take advantage of them.

UNPLUG & CONNECT

When it comes to becoming a more intentional parent it is important to tune out the background noise.

This means turning off the television, putting down your phone and closing your laptop.

Create a space that is just for you and your little one to share without distraction, truly listen to what they have to say.

BE CONSISTENT

There is nothing more confusing to a child than inconsistency between parents.

You must make sure that your partner and you are on the same page when it comes to your parenting and decisions made.

If one parent says yes and the other no, it just becomes confusing and invites manipulation. Be intentional and consistent with your decisions and stick to them.

HAVE FAMILY MEETINGS

Being an intentional parent means that you want your family to feel heard and understood.

The best way to let everyone voice their opinions, concerns and thoughts are to allow for at least one time a week where everyone gathers to be heard.

These family meetings will give you the insight you need to parent effectively, become less reactive and more responsive, and build a deeper connection.

If you want to become a more intentional parent it is important that you make time, unplug and truly connect, be consistent and have family meetings.

Taking these simple steps are sure to help you become the parent you always wanted to be.
