TIPS FOR HEALTHY SKIN DURING WINTER

The winter months are an exciting mix of holidays, outdoor fun and beautiful fresh fallen snow.

In fact, the winter months are some of the most beautiful months of the year, except when it comes to your skin.

Winter weather is not as kind to our skin as it is to our eyes.

Low humidity mixed with the cold, blustery wind can result in extremely dry air that robs the moisture away from your skin throughout the day.

When your skin becomes dry, it can bleed and crack and the wind that comes along with winter only makes it worse.

Adding additional moisture to your skin can help, but there are more things that you can do reduce the effects of winter on your skin, keeping it smooth and youthful.

USE LUKEWARM WATER

Hot baths and showers may feel wonderful over the winter months, but it is important to choose lukewarm water when it comes to washing, especially when you are washing your face or hands.

MOISTURIZE

Moisturize your skin immediately after washing, showering or bathing.

Applying a think layer of moisturizer to your skin while it is damp will help to seal the moisture into your skin.

Have moisturizer available at every sink, bathtub and shower stall around your home to make it easy to remember to use every time you wash.

I personally use the doterra body lotion for my hands/body, and for extra troublesome areas, including the dry skin inside my nose, I use jojoba oil.

PAY ATTENTION TO INGREDIENTS

Some moisturizers will contain ingredients that can further rob your skin of moisture.

Make sure to choose a product that has nourishing, natural ingredients.

Rather choosing a petroleum or water-based product, opt for something oil based as it is more likely to help your skin maintain moisture.

TAKE PROTECTIVE MEASURES

Take measures to protect your skin from the elements.

Wear scarves, gloves, and hats whenever possible to protect your skin from rain, wind, and snow.

Also remember, that the winter sun can be just as damaging as the sun in the summer, so always apply sunscreen to any exposed skin.

HYDRATE

Making sure that you are hydrated will take care of your skin from the inside out.

Don’t forget to drink water over the cold winter months, even if you want to indulge in more warm beverages like tea or hot chocolate.

In fact, cucumber infused water has fantastic benefits to your skin, so opt for that.

EXFOLIATE

Never forget to exfoliate your skin to remove all the dry and itchy skin that is flaking off, especially on your hands.

Using an exfoliating body scrub or exfoliating bath gloves over the winter can have several benefits over the winter months.

Do not forget to keep your skin healthy this winter, it will make you feel much happier and healthier when your skin is taken care of.
