The Big Yellow School Bus Is a Scary Beast! #FisherPriceMoms

January, the time of year when we start to reflect on what was and what is to come. As you may recall, I was a Fisher Price Mom in 2012 and I’m excited to announce that in 2013 my role has changed as I am now a Fisher Price Play Ambassador. I’m excited to share this journey with you.

2012 was a wonderful year full of blessings for our family and as we embark on 2013 we are filled with hopes and dreams for our family and our little ones.

As we get ready for 2013 the biggest milestone we foresee is our baby girl starting kindergarten…EEK, cue the tears.  We have molded and shaped Jane into the little girl that she is today.  We have read to her, played with her and allowed her “guided freedom” to begin to learn about this thing we call life. This fall the big yellow school bus will arrive at our doorstep taking Jane (and us) into the next chapter of life.

Wow, that is a scary thought…

As much as I want to slow down this milestone, I know that my hubby and I have done our best to ensure she  is ready for this.

We realize the importance of educating our children prior to them going to school.  Our youngest can write, recognize her own name, count, etc, etc and we know without a doubt that she is ready for this journey…even if we are feeling a little apprehensive.

There are many learning tools and resources that we have used to help Jane become the confident, independent child she is. Fisher Price has great resources that help children reach the next educational milestone in their lives and Jane has learned many new concepts through play.

As a parent it is normal for us to strive for our children to get as much of a leg up as they can.  My husband and I admit that we are guilty of pushing our girls to do their best and to us that means that they TRY their best and have a GOOD ATTITUDE.  They don’t have to be first, but if they tried their best, then we as parents are as proud as can be.

Lets all help our children as they get ready for this year.

What are some of milestones you foresee your child(ren) reaching this year?

When my oldest child started kindergarten she was so excited. We lived in a rural area so part of the excitement was to go on the school bus. I waited at the end of the drive with her, helped her up the first step - and she bounded up the rest, ran to sit with the first girl she saw and NEVER EVEN LOOKED BACK! She didn't wave goodbye, didn't see me blow a kiss. . . I cried. My husband thought it was hilarious but he wisely gave me a consoling hug. She's still independent to this day and it has served her well over the 20 years since that day.

Starting school is such a big milestone! My youngest starts in another year, and it will make things quite different around here!

My son should be talking more this year. He is just starting to try and talk, it's adorable. My 5-year old will be turning 6 this year and I see a sleepover in her future with one or two of her friends from school. There is so much I'm looking forward to with these two little ones. I enjoyed your post.

I'll never forget my son's first day of kindergarten. I was more scared than he was. In a few months my nephew turns 16 and will be driving. I am so dreading that.
