Once again we are entering a bitter sweet time of year for me. You see, I love the fall season. The air is cold and crisp and I love the sound of leaves being crushed in amongst the frost while walking to pick up the mail from the community box.
There is another sound which sometimes comes in the Fall season that is not so welcomed by this mommy. Those dreadful words, “Mommy…I’m sick”.
What can we do about this? None of us want to hear the words “I’m sick”, but there is hope for preventing some of these dreaded fall colds.
Lets start by creating good habits around our children. Children learn through example and if they see us washing our hands when we are suppose to, then they will learn to do the same. Make it a point to highlight this to your children by speaking the words “Mommy is washing her hands” as you do it so they hear and see what you are doing.
Next lets make hand washing easy and have soap and soap dispensers available where they will be used. Lysol® No-Touch Hand Soap dispensers are easy and fun to use. My girls love that they can wave their hands by getting just the right amount of soap from the dispenser. This amusement ensures they are getting their hands washed just right (yes, they sometimes use more than they should, but to me, that is better than using none at all).
While out, be sure to carry a hand sanitizer with you. There are lots of small bottles that are perfect for your purse. Having this in public settings will make sure hands are clean and germs are gone. Your kids will love having to do this and pretend they are just like you.
These are just a few tips to make sure your kids are clean and germs are not going to be an issue. If germs are kept under control, the sniffs and runny noses are going to be under control and hopefully you will not have to hear those dreaded words, “Mommy, I’m Sick”.
