Placing letters on a line is a great practice for children before the learn to print. This way when they learn to print they can just focus on holding the pencil and paper, as they will already know where each letter should be placed.
To make my line is used a scrap piece of laminate flooring and electrical tape.
My moveable alphabet was made by Gonzagarredi. I wanted a high quality set, but I also paid the price! You can see them HERE.
There are many company’s that sell cheaper Montessori Materials. You can purchase a set for $150 less than what I paid HERE. (I am not sure how the quality would be as I have not ordered this product from them).

You know, I saw a pack of cardstock/posterboard letters at WalMart last week that might work the same way. I could even laminate them for durability, but this would work great for my *budding* reader. He could use this to make words just for practicing sounding them out, too. LOVE it!

Great, great idea! I love it! I am always trying to figure this out. We use a magnetic board and letters now, but this would really help with letter placement. I might use tape on the board I have...

I just found your blog. I love the idea here with the letters on the line. What a great learning tool.
I am going to take a look around and see what other great ideas you have.

That's pretty cool. I think my son would love that. He's not quite ready for that yet, but it's something good to keep in mind.
Thanks for visiting me on my SITS day!
