Mom of the Month

All these moms, along with the Mom of the Month’s were featured on the Playtex Mommyville Facebook Page.

This month, Playtex Mommyville has 3 new questions that they are surveying new and veteran moms alike.  I am going to share the questions with you, and this time, include MY answers:

#1)  Making the decision to have a child is life changing and those 9 months leading up to your baby’s birth can be both wonderful and a little scary. What advice would you give to a first time or expecting mom?

— People are going to have LOTS of advice for you.  Not only when you are pregnant, but especially once that baby is born.  My advice to you is to make your own decisions!  Sure, get advice from friends, family, doctors and/or midwives, but remember — ultimately the decision is yours.  Make the decision and stick to it.  You know what is best for you and your family.

#2)  Seeing your baby in tears (or in pain) can break your heart even when it has to do with something as natural as teething. What do you do to help your baby cope during hard times?

— Both of my kids received a stuffed animal and a blanket from family members when they were born.  These stuffies and blankets are something constant that they have always known.  Make sure that your child has something soft and comforting for them to grab on to.  My kids are 7 & 5 and when they are having a bad day, or feeling sick, they still gravitate towards these special items because they make them feel safe.

#3)  The seasons are starting to change and as the cooler/warmer weather approaches what types of activities are you looking forward to with your family?

— As I mentioned, my kids are 7 & 5.  Last year we were super busy running from activity to activity.  And it was just TOO much!  This year, we gave each child the option to choose 1 activity.  My 7 year old daughter chose theatre classes while my 5 year old son chose gymnastics.  Between those two activities, family skating nights and other family fun activities, we are sure that our fall and winter will be jam packed with fun!

Don't compare yourself to anyone else, you and your baby are different. Even one child to the next can be so different. Do what works for you!

For me, to enjoy the funny silly moments. During the sleepless nights, or the tempertantrums, remember the cute things and the hugs and cuddles because before you know it they will be 19 and moved out and too busy to call home. My oldest is 19. I never see him, so I try to enjoy my little ones as much as I can. And yes, I'm the Andrea A who won. My youngest is hilarious :)

Well congratulations on winning the Funniest Moment! I'm sure most moms could write a book of funny moments, however it is sometimes hard to cherish those moments during the sleepless nights and tantrums.

When your baby naps so should you, don't try and be a hero, let others help with the cleaning or if you don't have help just leave it, baby and you need your rest, and anyone that does come over should understand if the house is messy:)

This is something that I finally realized once my youngest was born. I didn't have to do it all!

My best advice for new Moms is to remember to take things one day at a time and to be sure to take time every single day just to sit and enjoy your new baby! Time flies by so quickly!

Re your #2 - we had special songs that we sang to our kids when they were young that over time really became a comfort for them!

Special songs are something that they can pass down to their kids as well! And you are right, time DOES fly by super fast -- take time to enjoy those snuggles and even the sleepless nights!

To lay around in your pjs after you get home from the hospital. People will come see you and your baby, but they won't stay too long. They'll get the clue that you are tired.

Great idea Alissa! Of course, it is also more relaxing for you to be comfortable. I remember being in pjs when friends came to visit. They weren't offended at all!
