TIPS FOR KIDS’ CONTAINER GARDENING
USE WHATEVER CONTAINERS YOU CAN FIND – One of the really cool things about container gardening is that you can use any containers you find. There are no set rules when it comes to containers. You can use containers like coffee cans and milk cartons. Let your child choose various different kinds of containers.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE GOOD SOIL – Good soil is an important part of container gardening. While you don’t have to pay a ton for good soil, it may still cost a few bucks.
FIND A SPOT FOR THE CONTAINERS – I think one of the best parts of container gardening for kids is that there is no set place for the containers. The containers can go inside or outside, wherever there is room. Let your kids pick where the containers will go. It may be even cool to document the progress of the containers when put in sunlight or in a shaded area. Turn container gardening into a learning experience for the whole family.
TAKE PICTURES TO DOCUMENT PROGRESS – Allow your children to take pictures of their progress. Digital cameras are an excellent tool for documenting progress in container gardening. You can help them start their own little online photo album or even a small blog documenting their container garden’s progress.
MAKE IT SPECIAL – Consider having your child make a container garden with a grandparent or an elderly friend. Not only will they make a little garden, they will also make some very special memories too.
Container gardening for kids is quite the learning experience. However, at the end of it all, they will have learned a ton of AWESOME things about gardening. Do you have any tips to add to this list?
