Summer is Right Around the Corner ~ And so is Summer Camp!

Summer is right around the corner!

Or at least I hope so.

For many, summer means heading off to camp.

Now I won’t say that I was overjoyed to be heading off to camp.  I love my own bed way too much.  But even though it wasn’t the first thing on my to-do list, I bravely boarded the bus with my best friend and off we went.  Am I ever glad now that she talked me into going!

Summer Camp Fun

Camp was such a great experience for me and brought me out of my comfort zone and on the edge of adventure.  The camp that I went to way back in the day, did not have showers and only 1 flushing toilet.  We were lucky enough to have sinks with running water to brush our teeth, but showers (or should I say baths) were held in the lake.

I spent a lot of time finding out new things about myself, and since it was a Christian camp I attended, I found new developments in my relationship with God.

We did many exciting things at camp — horseback riding, sliding down natural God-made water slides near the river and going on nature hikes.

After that 1st camp adventure, I wasn’t sure I would ever go back.  However, I decided to head back to camp the summer of my grade 10 year to become a CIT (Counselor in Training).  This program was a 2 week program at a Christian camp about 2 hours away.  I stayed in a cabin with young pre-teen girls and showed them God’s love.  I tried many new things that summer like canoeing, mountain biking, and camping (Yes — the first time I camped I was almost 16!)

Summer camp is a great way for kids to step out of their comfort zones, enjoy the summer and make new friends!

Free Week at Camp

Now I have the joy of watching my nieces head off to camp every summer.  After their 1 or 2 weeks, they come back excited to share all they adventures they have been on while they were at camp.  In a few short years (next year if she wants to), my daughter would be old enough to head to camp and start her own adventures.

Did YOU attend summer camp as a kid?  If so, tell us your most memorable moment!

I was never able to go to summer camp. My parents would ship me off to my grandmothers a few hundred miles away for a week. I do send my kids to summer camp they love it and beg every year to go back.
