HOW TO GET ORGANIZED WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START

Being disorganized can lead you to feel extremely stressed out, unhappy and overwhelmed.

Whether you realize it or not, there are several ways disorganization effects you in a negative way.

The problem is, getting organized when you are already deep into the rabbit hole of disorganization can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know where to start.

The good news is, there are ways to get organized that will not help you reduce your stress but give you a good way to get started.

CREATE A GAME PLAN

Take a walk around your home to access what areas truly need organizing.

Once you have determined what the priorities are, take the time to pull out a notepad and write out an in-depth game plan, outlining what you will be doing.

Take note of the different sizes of boxes or bins you think you will need to store things properly.

If you have things you know you are going to have to get rid of, make sure you have a method readily available to have them removed from your home.

 STORAGE SPACES

The best places to start when it comes to organizing your home, are your storage spaces.

This may require plenty of rearranging and de-cluttering, but this is a priority.

Cleaning your storage spaces first and foremost will help you later down the line when you are organizing other spaces in your home, giving you additional space to put items that seemingly have nowhere to go in the present.

Start out small by de-cluttering a junk drawer, moving on to larger spaces like closets, your garage or your basement.

Remember, one area at a time.

HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS

The highest traffic areas of your home are the next places to get started.

Choose the room that is the busiest in your home.

For many, that is the kitchen, followed by your front entrance, living rooms, and bathrooms.

These areas tend to get the most cluttered and messy, but since they are used so frequently should ideally be the least cluttered.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET ORGANIZED?

KEEP IT SIMPLE

If you find yourself getting run down, don’t try to attempt too much in a day.

In fact, spreading tasks out may simplify them for you.

There is also no shame in requesting help, working together as a team with other members of your household will make it much easier to get and stay organized.

There are so many ways to get organized, even when you don’t know where to start.

Just make sure that you have an action plan, focus on clearing out your storage spaces, pay close attention to high traffic areas and keep it simple.

In no time you will find yourself in a more organized environment.

These are all great tips! I've been doing lots of decluttering the last couple years, it's a work in progress. My focus this year first is on clearing out our storage room and downstairs bedroom that has become storage and dumping ground. Then filing needs to be organized. I have come up with some great ways to revamp our storage.
