CRUST:
5 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 lb (2 cups) lard or shortening
2 TBSP vinegar
2 eggs
Sift dry ingredients together and work in lard (I use a butter knife to cut/work it in)
Beat eggs in a 1 cup measuring cup and add vinegar -then fill up the remainder of the cup with cold water. Mix well!
Roll out on floured surface with floured rolling pin.
Keeps well in refrigerator or freeze in balls. Recipe makes approx 3 pies.
You can add cherry pie filling before you bake or here are 2 more of my grandmas favorites:
mix 3 chopped/peeled apples with 3/4 cup sugar and 2 Tbsp flour (per pie)
or
3 cups rhubarb with 1 cup sugar and 2 tbsp flour (per pie).
Bake at 425 for 15 minutes and then at 375 for 40 minutes.
Enjoy!
Here are some pics of my daughter helping bake pie.
and this is a picture of my grandma – she has made this recipe of pie for many years – it is the only pie recipe I use too!
