Making sure that you are properly prepared to return to your work after maternity leave is important. There may be some things that worry you about leaving your baby, so make sure that you have plans in place, prepare your routine and try your best to stock up on essentials.
FIND A BABYSITTER
Some people may have difficulty choosing the right babysitter for their child. Make sure that you give yourself enough time before your return date to gather recommendations, interview sitters and go through a trial run with them.
It is also a good idea to ensure that you have a backup babysitter in case of emergencies.
START YOUR NEW ROUTINE EARLY
The more you are prepared for your new routine, the better you will be at managing the demands that come with it.
- MAKE LISTS – Make sure that you have a daily to-do list to follow that can help to keep those demands in check.
- SET YOUR ALARM – It is also a good idea to start setting your alarm to make sure that you can transition your sleep schedule to fit with your work schedule.
- MAKE A SCHEDULE – If you are still breastfeeding, it is a good idea to have a plan pertaining to when and how you will pump while at work.
Taking the time to get used to a new routine prior to the big day, will help to make the transition much smoother.
WORK AGAINST THE MOM GUILT
It is not uncommon for moms returning to work to feel a little guilty.
Just remember that a lot has changed since the last time you were at the office, and the new schedule and perspective will take some getting used to.
Try to consider ways that you can make the transition easier for you. If you want to schedule daily check-ins with your little one, then go ahead and do that.
Going back to work after having a baby doesn’t have to be scary. Just make sure that you are properly prepared, ready to implement your new routine and work against the guilt you may be feeling.
