I was raised on the family road trip. Once on a vacation “Out West,” my Dad took us all to a field and made us feel the ruts worn into the ground by wagon trains. I would like to say that this made a deep impression on me (pun totally intended), but I was a rather shallow teenager at the time. On another memorable trip, my parents forgot to make hotel reservations at a planned stop and we ended up having to spend a hot and humid night together in our van: me, my parents, my brother, my sister, my high school boyfriend, and my grandma in one unbearably cramped and smelly vehicle. I feel that I have paid my road trip dues.
Now I have the chance to move on to bigger and better road trips. About a week ago, I found out that I am one of ten finalists in the 2011 Family Road Trip contest for Parenting Magazine. The grand prize is an all expense paid six-day family road trip next spring (worth approx. $15,000). The winners will document their journey and then share it with Parenting Magazine readers. As a former TV news reporter and the owner of a blog called “Adventures in Parenting,” this sort of thing is right up my alley. I really want to win!!!
That said, I am asking everyone I know if they will consider taking a minute to vote for the Hayes Family. All it takes is a simple click of the mouse. Apparently, I am up against some really popular people, because I am already way behind in the polls. But that’s okay. I have a secret weapon: Mommy Moment readers (also known as the best and most loyal blog readers around). Will you help a fellow mommy out?
If so, just click here to vote. You can vote once daily until Monday, November 15. In addition, after you vote, I’d love to read the stories of YOUR most memorable road trip moments…either as a child or as a parent. I’m sure there are some good ones out there! Just leave your comments here.
I’ll let you know the results in November, and will be keeping my fingers crossed until then. Thank you in advance for your help and support!

Many of my readers/supporters said it was a bit complicating to vote in Round 1, so I want to make it as easy as I can for you to vote for Mommy Moment in this last round.
