These adorable SHAMROCK PENCIL TOPPERS are a super fun way to get ready for St. Patty’s Day while adding some fun pizzazz to some otherwise bland pencils! This is a great ‘no fuss, no mess’ craft that your kiddos will want to do over and over again!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pencils
Pipe Cleaners
Foam Sheets
Scissors
STEP 1:
Draw the shape of a shamrock on a foam sheet and cut it out. If it’s hard to get the shape just right, draw the tops of 3 hearts and a stem. I like to add a little bling to the toppers by mixing some sparkly silver foam sheets with the plain green ones.
STEP 2:
Use the shamrock you cut out to trace the rest of the ones you need for your craft, then cut them all out.
STEP 3:
Take a pipe cleaner and tightly wind around your pencil. You can keep it wound tightly together, or slightly stretch apart so that there are small spaces between.
STEP 4:
Take your foam shamrocks and pull the stem underneath sections of the wound pipe cleaner. Keep it simple by adding just one to the top, or pack it full and stick them in wherever you find room (our kids prefer the latter!).
I love how simple this craft is, with only 4 materials and no messy glue required!
Using the foam sheets makes this a great craft for younger children, as the foam is robust and can handle some tugging and twisting without ripping, as paper has a tendency to do.
VARIATIONS:
Add some pizzazz to your shamrocks before attaching them by using glitter glue or St. Patrick’s Day stickers.
