I’m excited to share this DIY Father’s Day Photo Frame with you all today as it would make such a special keepsake.
Every year my kiddos and I put our heads together and brainstorm what to do for Father’s Day that will be special.
Last year the kids and I were walking through Winners in the home decor department, waiting for creativity to strike, when we stumbled upon this amazing weathered-looking shadow box with a padded burlap interior.
I had no idea what we were going to do with it yet, but at $17.99 I just couldn’t pass it up!
As we were driving home we figured it all out. We would design a way of hanging pictures of Dad with each of the kids and include personalized notes from each of them on the back.
I took the pictures on separate days over the coarse of a couple months so he wouldn’t get suspicious!

MATERIALS
- Shadowbox with an interior suitable for sticking pins in (burlap, cork or fabric)
- Jute burlap 1/2” string
- Scissors
- Headpins
- Mini crafting clothespins
- Cardstock
- Paper trimmer
- Sticky photo squares
- Notepaper & pen
- Photos
DIRECTIONS
Measure your jute burlap string with enough length that it will hang nicely, and so the ends can be neatly folded over. Then push 2 pins in each side to hold the string in place.
Use the paper trimmer to cut cardstock slightly larger than photo size. I used 4×6 photos and cut the cardstock to frame each photo by leaving it 1/4” longer on each side.
Using the paper trimmer, cut notepaper to the same size as photos. Have kids write their own notes. I used lined note paper. Make sure they sign their names and record the date.
Attach the note to the underside of the cardstock using sticky photo squares. Flip it over and attach photo the same way.
Space photos evenly on the string, and clip them on using the mini crafting clothespins.
Now you have a beautiful gift and can look back over the years at these precious notes!
