Being Prepared, even when it Stinks!

It is so amazing that an 8 pound little being can change your life in ways that are simply unimaginable.  Your new accessories include a diaper bags and burp cloths and your new designer outfits generally include sweat pants.

Whether it’s coming out the back or while they have that brief second of freedom between changes, there are some stains that we simply don’t want to deal with.

Babies poop.

Since there is nothing we can do to prevent this not so cute reality, there are some things you can do to help diaper changing be not so, well, stinky.

  1. My husband was a good Boy Scout and come diapering time was always reminding me of the famous Boy Scout motto,Be Prepared.  When getting ready to diaper have all your utensils ready.  Have the diaper, wipes, mat and don’t forget the must have toy for distraction (will explain this later) ready.  The last thing you need during a diaper change is having to have to hunt for whatever “tool” you need to complete your job.
  2. Next tip is have a good quality diaper! Huggies® Little Movers Diapers are now even more absorbent with new and improved Leak Lock® to keep parents and little ones protected from leaks between diaper changes. These diapers also feature a new and improved flexible pad to follow baby’s every twist, wiggle and turn to keep them active and dry as they move and play.
  3. Of course having good quality wipes is also something you don’t want to skimp out on (do I really need to explain why?!?)
  4. And my husband’s most important contribution to changing time…have a distraction.  Anyone knows that once babies learn they can move…they will move.  There is no way you can get them to lay still for a diaper change, after all, there are toys to play with and messes to make.  Having dad (or some type of toy) available to distract and keep in one place can be a life saver.

All tips aside, this is a page in the book of your life.  This page is an important one (just like all other pages).  Cherish these with your partner or other supports in your life.   Your life will/has change(d) and adjustments will have to be made.  This may include planning shopping and social events around nap time, or simply knowing if certain stores, restaurants or gyms are truly stroller friendly (you know exactly what I am talking about).  The bottom line is life will change and that is ok.  You are in it with your new extension of your life.  You, your partner and baby will take on the world whether it’s ready for you or not.  View the world as a challenger that is ready to fall at the hands of your mercy.

Cheer up moms of the world and wear your puke stained shirt with honor knowing that others have been in your shoes and others will follow!

I whole-heartedly agree with the distraction tip - so important when you've got a squirmy toddler!!

We use cloth diapers most of the time, but also use disposables on occasion. It is so important to have a reliable diaper with each and EVERY diaper change.
