There are many fun Christmas Eve traditions for the whole family to participate in this year.

Try some new ones, mix them in with your old ones and have fun celebrating together as a family enjoying some wonderful traditions this Christmas Eve.

READ CHRISTMAS BOOKS

Doing a Christmas countdown with books is not only a fantastic way to countdown to the big day, but it provides tonnes of reading material for Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Eve, settle in with your family under a big cozy blanket and read every single Christmas book that you have accumulated this year.

HAVE A CHRISTMAS MOVIE MARATHON

Settle in with a big mug of hot chocolate and watch some of the best Christmas movies of all time.

You can even start this the morning of Christmas Eve to fill the day with holiday joy.

There is nothing quite as cozy as some Christmas classics and a snuggle.

ATTEND A CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

Many churches have a Christmas Eve service.

Enjoy listening to the choir and spend some time reflecting on what this Christmas season means.

WATCH THE SANTA TRACKER

There are several Santa tracker apps out there that can be used to find out where in the world Santa is on Christmas Eve.

Make it a point to check in on Santa’s locale several times throughout the night.

HAVE A FUN DINNER

With a fully involved Christmas dinner on the horizon, it is fun to make Christmas Eve a night filled with easy to eat finger foods.

Have everyone choose an item they would like to have on the table and then everyone can choose whatever they want.

The buffet style, grab and go dinner will be fun for the entire family and give you a bit of a break when it comes to cooking and cleaning.

You can even use fun Christmas paper plates to make it simpler.

WEAR MATCHING JAMMIES

Have everyone in your family open one gift on Christmas Eve.

Make sure that gift is always matching pajamas.

There is nothing cuter than an entire family in a new set of adorable matching pajamas on Christmas Eve.

TAKE A FAMILY PHOTO

Take a yearly family photo in front of the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, then sit down and compare them to previous years.

This is such a great way to commemorate an exciting Christmas Eve.

The holidays are so much fun, especially for families and creating new Christmas Eve traditions is a fantastic way to amp up the holidays this year.

We like to watch movie together on Christmas Eve while enjoying dinner. Previous years we had appetizers for dinner but found it a lot of work so we are now gong to have steak and chicken for the kids then shrimp scampi for lunch next day.

Everyone gets matching jammies for Christmas Eve. We started doing it a few years ago (when we had twins!). It's so fun to see everyone in the same or similar pjs. We always take a family photo in our jammies. :)

Socks in the stockings has been a long standing tradition. And my dad always gets peanuts and a Terry's Chocolate Orange (and usually some beer!) in his stocking.
