In 1967 The Beatles release the song a Day in the Life on their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band record. In the song Paul talks about how he gets his day started and we follow in on this routine.
Well I would like to share with you a day in the life of my kid’s hands and what they touch in a day. This can be as mysterious as a Beatles song from the White Album.
My oldest goes to school and I notice it as soon as she gets on the bus and grabs the handle that every other child on earth has grabbed. I am greeted by my youngest getting out of bed and runs to me, which is not that bad, other than the fact she has half a bowl of yogurt on her face and the rest on her hands.
Next is play time for the youngest and out comes the Play-Doh that every child that has come to our home as played with. And we all know that you can’t wash Play-Doh. Once inside playtime is done, outside we go. Youngest once again finds a dead bird, gift from the neighborhood cat in the sandbox, bugs in all shapes and sizes, a grease covered tool daddy forgot to put away, an old half burned log from the fire pit, or some lovely flowers that just beg to be picked… She feels the need to show me all her busy work by shoving all her finds in my face 🙂
We have made it to nap time and all is good till oldest gets home off the bus. She grabs the handle to get off the bus (same one every germ covered child on this planet has touched) and slowly walks to the door. She stops at the neighbors house to play with their sweet little girl and her colorful balls that are covered in baby saliva. Before she finally gets to the door to our house she feels the need to pick up some garbage on the street, examine it and then throw it away. This is followed by rubbing her hands along the car that has not been washed since…well… the last time it rained (and I am sure there was no trace of soap in the rain drops).
Having heard a Day in the Life of my children’s hands makes me thankful for Lysol and their cleaning products. After a thorough hand washing I feel safe to serve any type of finger food snacks for when they get home or wake up from their naps.
Until June 27th Lysol is giving away 250 dispensers (soap not included) each week on their Facebook page!
