Toddler Activities & Games for the family

Welcome to Monday’s Montessori Moment!
Two activities that are a hit with our Toddler are also a hit with me. I love these activities because not only do they help with her fine motor skills but also with colors! She says the colors as she goes. The 2 colors she knows really well are Blue and Pink!

(I think this is actually some kind of game. I found it at a second hand store and figured it would be great as a toddler activity! I love second hand stores!)

With each cylinder placed on the yellow tower she would say “Lellow, mommy, Lellow”

What works do you do to help your toddler with color recognition?

One Game that we love to play as a family is called Little Bear. Younger children get cards with pictures they have to match and older children get cards with Uppercase and Lowercase letters. They have to match the beginning sounds of the word to the letters on the card.

I love this game because both of my girls can play and by seeing the letters it acts as a control of error!

I love that playing games together helps children learn co-operative skills, taking turns, patience etc.

Do you have any games that you love to play that work with the Montessori Method?

I really like the game idea. It's great that you can use it with multiple ages! My son learned colors through finger painting mostly!

We have a counting game we like. It has a spinner and if you say, spin a 6, you have to find the card with the six spotted dog, turn the card over and see how many bones you "won". So many counting experiences within the game and also since we sort the spotted dog cards before we start, we get sorting practice as well.
