Support WE ARE SILENT with Second Cup #Giveaway {CAN}

Imagine with me for a minute.

Your precious child, only 12 years old, wakes up.

He dresses and grabs a cup of water as he walks out the door.

Instead of heading to school, however, he is off to work — as a child laborer.

Imagine that he has been working since the age of 4 – sold into slavery and spends his days chained up.

How sad is this story?  How sad, that this story is true and is a direct reflection of many young lives around the world.

Every year millions of children are forced to work as child laborers, denied the right to attend school and are deprived of essential services like food, water and health care.

Free the children

Free the Children was formed in a Grade 7 classroom in Thornhill, Ontario in 1995 by a 12 year old boy named Craig Kielburger.  He understood the urgency and now Free the Children is asking you to stand up for children who are being silenced by the denial of basic human rights.  These children cannot speak out for themselves but YOU CAN HELP!

Second Cup has been a long time supporter of Free the Children.  As a “coffee company that cares”, Second Cup will be donating $1 from the sale of each We Are Silent tumbler.  This tumbler is a leak-free and BPA free cup signed by Molly Burke.  Molly Burke is a spokesperson for We Are Silent and has an incredible story.

When she was just 4 years old, Molly Burke’s world began to darken: she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a retinal disease causing loss of vision.  Drawing from deeply personal experiences, Molly brings audiences, especially students, a uniquely young and current perspective on issues many of them face each day.  Her message—that any challenge in life, whether it’s bullying, mental illness or a loss of vision, can be overcome—resonates powerfully.

Won’t you join Second Cup and Free the Children and stand up against child labor?
