It’s the Simple Things

by Carly

It never ceases to amaze me what really makes me happy as a mom. With all the craziness summer brings: swimming, vacations, barbecues. All the memories that we want to make for our kids. It just makes me realize It’s the simple things that bring me the most joy.

The thing that comes to mind most often, is the simple act of giving your baby a bath. Making them clean, getting all the grime and goobers off from all their outside playing in the dirt, washing their hair, smelling their hair after you wash it. There is nothing like clean children after baths! I try to really enjoy it while it lasts because literally all you have to do is blink and they are dirty again!

The other simple thing that makes me feel like I am doing my job as a mom is watching them eat something I have made for them. I just love the fact that I am providing them something they need. They are growing stronger and smarter and rely on me to take care of them to the best to my ability.

When my 4 year old really likes something I have made for dinner, she gets this adorable little smirk on her face and says really excitedly “It’s time to do a countdown!” she then begins to count as high as she can, like to 20 sometimes mixing up her numbers and when she has decided she has counted high enough she yells “THANK YOU MOM!” I don’t remember how this started but I have to laugh every time she does it. I don’t think I would feel any more complimented if Bobby Flay himself said something good about my cooking. (I also doubt he would do a count down)

So the next time I am so exhausted from all the hustle and bustle of trying to get my kids to each and every activity. I am going to slow down and think of the simple things.

I totally know what you mean about bath time. It might be a "chore," but it is always one of my favorite times of the day. My kids are always so funny in the bath...and I just soak it up (no pun intended) as I watch them get lost in their play. The only bad part is having to drag them out of the tub. I will definitely miss bath time when they get older!
