Eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive but it can be tricky. Here are 4 ways to eat well in winter without breaking the bank!
HOW TO EAT WELL IN WINTER WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK
#1) CHECK SALAS AND PLAN MEALS ACCORDINGLY – I always meal plan my next week’s meals with my local sales flyers in hand. Seeing what produce is on sale the coming week helps me keep fresh produce in all our meals all while saving some money! If you hadn’t already heard, Sobeys is on a mission to offer better produce at lower prices every day. Check it out in store – you’ll see lots of changes to the produce department, like weekly “produce picks” and tips on prep from Jamie Oliver!
#2) KEEP PANTRY AND FREEZER ITEMS WELL ORGANIZED – it is easier to plan healthy meals if you are prepared. Keeping your pantry and freezer items organized and even having a running list of items available will help your family eat meals that are not only healthier for them but will also save you money by using up the staples you already have!
#3) DON’T FORGET YOUR LEFTOVERS – many meals taste great the next day as well. If you make a delicious meal for your family, make a little extra at supper so that you can eat it for lunch again the next day. Kids love taking homemade lunches to school too (my daughter often says she is the envy of the class!)
#4) BUY FRESH FRUITS IN SEASON OR ON SALE AND FREEZE THEM – Having frozen fruit on hand is a great way to get healthy nutrients. Simply throw frozen fruit into a smoothie and you’ve got a healthy snack for on the go. This works great with peas, carrots and other great veggies as well!
