DIY ~ Pot of Gold Tutorial

pot of gold

Since St Patrick’s day is just around the corner I thought it would be cute to do a little St Patty’s day craft for the blog today, but first I thought I would share some interesting facts about the holiday here in Canada.

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team was known as the Toronto St. Patrick’s from 1919 to 1927, and wore green jerseys. In 1999, when the Maple Leafs played on Saint Patrick’s Day, they wore green St. Pat’s retro uniforms. There is a large parade in the city’s downtown core on the Sunday prior to 17 March which attracts over 100,000 spectators.

  • One of the longest-running Saint Patrick’s Day parades in North America happens each year in Montreal, whose city flag includes a shamrock in its lower-right quadrant. The parades have been held continually since 1824.

  • In Manitoba, the Irish Association of Manitoba runs an annual three-day festival of music and culture based around St. Patrick’s Day.

Pretty neat eh?

Now on to the craft!

A little pot of gold

What you will need:

  • Small clay pot
  • Black paint
  • Paint brush
  • Glitter paint (if you want)
  • Chocolate coins

First you want to make sure that you have something covering your work station. I didn’t have any newspaper so I just used regular printer paper. The instructions for this really couldn’t be any easier.

  1. Take your clay pot, paint it black inside and out.
  2. Let dry and decorate with glitter paints if you wish.
  3. Add chocolate coins.

Easy peasy!

You can decorate it as little or as much as you wish. I personally like the simplicity of my pot of gold.  I can’t guarantee that the chocolate coins will last long around my three boys!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
