DIY CHRISTMAS COASTERS

MATERIALS:

DIY Christmas Coaster

  • 4 – 4″ square ceramic tiles
  • 4 Christmas Cards
  • 1 Foam Sheet or Felt
  • Minwax Polycrylic
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Pan Scraper or Credit Card
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Brushes & Paint Brushes
  • Hot Glue
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

Cut each card into a 4″ x 4″ square with a paper trimmer. Make sure the card fits onto the tile before you adhere it. Trim as necessary to fit the tile.

Spread mod podge onto your tiles. Add the card and let it set. Shortly, the card will begin to curl on the edges and you might get concerned. Use your pan scraper or credit card to smooth out the card from the center to the edges. Wipe away any excess mod podge that oozes out on the edges. This will remove wrinkles and the edges will then stick to the tile and adhere flat. Take you time on this part because if there is a wrinkle it will probably stay!

Repeat until you have the desired number of coasters covered. Let dry for 3 hours.

Once dry, coat each coaster with a thin coat of Minwax Polycrylic. This is easiest with a foam brush.  This will make your coasters waterproof. Let dry for 2 hours and repeat with a second coat and third if desired.

DIY Christmas Coaster

Cut four pieces of felt or foam about 4″ square to fit onto the bottom of your coasters. Use hot glue to affix them and press firmly. This will prevent them from scratching your table.

There are some really beautiful Christmas cards. Making them into coasters is a great way to enjoy them year after year, or to give them to others to enjoy.

Oh these are a good idea. I usually use old cards to make new cards, cutting bits out and layering them. But these are a nice idea.
