HOW TO CREATE A MEMORY BOX FOR YOUR CHILD

Not every parent has time to create extravagant scrapbooks for their children, but they all want to be able to preserve those special memories for their families.

Rather than spend hours devoting your time to creating in-depth scrapbooks for each of your children, it is a great idea to create a memory box instead.

Not only is a memory box an easy way to store memories, trinkets, and mementos for your little ones, but it is also a fantastic way to keep these items safe and doesn’t take much more effort than putting items in a box.

FIND A BOX

The first thing you need to do when it comes to creating a memory box is finding the box.

While you may be tempted to find an elaborate looking box with gorgeous decorations all over it, that is not necessary.

Truthfully, while decorative boxes are pleasing to the eye they may not be very durable.

What you need to find is a well constructed and durable box or bin to be able to ensure the safety of its contents.

In fact, choosing a large weatherproof, waterproof box may be your best bet.

Especially if you will be storing these boxes in basements, attics or garages.

Totes work very well for memory boxes, and the larger the better.

Remember, you will be attempting to store years and years of memories in this box, so it must be able to accommodate that.

GATHER ITEMS

When creating your memory box, you need items to put in it.

Chances are you have items stored in several different locations in your home.

Go through every room and gather all the things you have designated as keepsakes for your little ones.

What to Put in the Memory Box:

  • Baby shower cards
  • Birthday cards
  • Hospital bracelets
  • Special outfits
  • Report cards
  • Baby blankets
  • Baby shoes
  • Artwork
  • Stuffed animals
  • Baby utensils
  • Items from their favourite extracurriculars
  • Memories from recitals and plays
  • Stories about each item included
  • And more..

Anything related to an important time in your child’s life can be put in their memory box, just make sure they are done using it before storing it away.

STORE THE BOX

Once you have filled the memory box and are ready to store it away, make sure to create a label to attach to it.

This will help you make sure it doesn’t get tossed aside.

ADD TO IT OFTEN
