Cinnamon Peach Jam Recipe

Canning is a great way to preserve fresh fruits and vegetables so that you can enjoy them year round. Growing up I always loved the canned preserves that were often a staple for our Sunday “faspa” (Faspa is a traditional Sunday afternoon Mennonite meal. It usually consists of buns, cheese, jam and pickles).

Jams, jellies, pickles, beets, canned fruit and salsa were among my favorites.

When I lost my grandma this past May, I knew I wanted to keep memories alive. She was the one who taught me how to can peaches in my tiny little apartment when I was first married. As I have been canning this year, I smile, knowing that I can pass this tradition on to my little girls!

Cinnamon Peach Jam Recipe

This delicious cinnamon peach jam is made using honey instead of sugar which is often more commonly used.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups of peaches, pealed and sliced
  • 1 pkg Bernardin Pectin
  • 1 1/2 cups honey
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Place peaches in a large bowl or the kitchen sink.
  2. Pour boiling water over the peaches so you can remove the skin easily.
  3. Slice 8 cups worth of chopped up peaches in a pot on the stove.
  4. Use a potato masher to break up pieces and stir till the peaches come to a boil
  5. Stir in the pectin, once it is all mixed in add the honey and continue stirring till dissolved.
  6. Add the lemon juice and cinnamon and place in hot, sterilized jars.
  7. Makes 9 jars

I love peaches. We'll have more than we can handle come the end of summer and I'm always on the look out for ways to use them up before they go bad. I may have to give canning a try asap.

I just made your jam, and it sure smells great! I notice that you didn't include how long to process the jars. I'm new to this. Thanks!
