This Christmas tree made from twigs will be a fun craft idea for kids of all ages. Younger children will have a blast running around outside trying to find twigs, while older kids will be able to help with the painting and gluing. Makes it a great craft to get the whole family involved!
CHRISTMAS TWIG TREE CRAFT
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Small Pallet Board (4.75″ x 5.5″)
- Green Acrylic Paint (Apple Barrel Paint in Christmas Green)
- Small Twigs
- Wire Cutters
- Hot Glue
- Paint Brush
- Old Toothbrush (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
#1) Water down the paint so that you are almost creating a stain and paint the pallet board. If you want a darker color, don’t add as much water or omit all together. If diluting with water, the board can take a while to dry. I like to paint my board and let it dry overnight. I do not advise trying to glue the sticks onto the board when it is damp. You can certainly lay your sticks on a damp board and then remove to let it dry.
#2) Find as many straight twigs and sticks as possible – make sure they are dry. Dead ones seem to work best for this project.
#3) Use wire cutters to trim twigs to the desired length and lay them onto your board. Once you have all of your twigs laid out, you can now glue them down. Use hot glue and start at the top and move downwards to glue the twigs onto the board.
#4) Use an old toothbrush to remove any hot glue strings you may have on your piece.
