Bees Matter Learning Centre – FREE TOOL KITS FOR TEACHERS!

Honey Bees are an important part of our ecosystem. And you can be a part of helping honey bees and other pollinators thrive by continuing to plant pollinator-friendly Buzzing Gardens!

In our previous post, we talked about the factors that affect honey bee health in Canada. You can check out our last post to learn more: HOW YOU CAN HELP HONEY BEES THRIVE.

We know that we can help the honey bees thrive by planting a BUZZING GARDENS SEED KIT. If your garden has started to come up, and you have these beautiful flowers blooming, share them with us on social media using the hashtag #Plantforbees!

But just because you have planted a pollinator-friendly garden, does not mean you are done. Educating those around you to continue to help the honey bee population thrive is an important task.

DID YOU KNOW: THE AVERAGE LIFESPAN OF A HONEY BEE IS 40-60 DAYS?

Honey Bees Matter

Bees Matter has a whole section on their website dedicated to educating adults and children alike on the life of a honey bee.

There are fantastic toolkits for teachers to use in their classrooms for grade 1-4 students across Canada. These tool kits include facts and tips on planting gardens to attract honey bees as well as lesson sheets to help kids remember what they learned.

There is also a great farmer’s guide tool kit that answers many great questions such as:

  • What factors affect Canadian honey bees?

  • Are honey bee populations declining?

  • How are farmers protecting bees?

  • How is the agricultural industry protecting bees?

It is easy to forget how important pollinators such as honey bees really are. We need them to pollinate many of the plants we grow and the food we eat. Without pollinators like honey bees, flowers couldn’t reproduce and without flowers, bees wouldn’t have anything to eat. Plant a pollinator-friendly garden today using brightly colored and sweet-smelling flowers and plants today, and encourage your friends and families to visit beesmatter.ca and learn more!

My daughter has been growing a flower bed this year just for the bees. She wants to make sure to do her part so that they stay around.

I did receive my Buzzing Garden Seed Kit and since it's late in the planting season I will be adding these to my garden next year. I think it's great that there are tools to help teach our children more about bees.
