Why my hero mom made me a hero too

At the age of 15 my mom became a true hero. She lived through a horrific experience.

Rape.

I can not imagine what it was like for a young 16 year old to give birth to a baby she had no intention of having. I do not know how she could look at me every moment of my life and not relive that disgusting ordeal. All I know is that I had a mom who stepped up and took the responsibility of being a mother seriously.

I did not have the fanciest clothes or the newest toys on the market growing up, but I was a happy child. I had a mother who worked hard to give me the best life she could. I remember the bright lights on the Christmas tree and the special doll I got as a little girl. I remember playing with neighbor boy in the next room while our moms played card games at the kitchen table. I remember the hot home cooked meals and the many Saturday mornings of Beach Boys or Abba playing loudly while mom cleaned the house.

My mom is not a woman of many words. My mom does not accept praise well. So instead of spending my life talking about my past I have spent it striving to be the best woman I can be so that my mom sees how her being a hero enabled her to raise a hero too.
