DIY Elephant Nail Art

Today I have a DIY post on how to paint elephant silhouettes on your nails. You need the blacks and whites but you can switch out the other two colours for different light/non shimmery polishes of your choice.

I used the following colours:

  • Sorry Im Fizzy Today – OPI
  • Angel with a Leadfoot – OPI
  • Mint Sorbet – Sally Hansen
  • Black Out – Sally Hansen
  • White Out- Salon Perfect
  • Liner Black – Salon Perfect
  • Along with a base and matte top coat – OPI

Elephant Nail Art polishes

I started with simply painting each nail colour. Then, because I don’t have a dotting tool that large, I took the end of my stick eyeliner and used that to create the body of the elephant. (I’ve also used the ends of pens and pencils in the past to create large dots. Just use what you have!) I painted the end of the eyeliner with the polish and smooshed it on the nail. I made two smaller dots on my middle finger because I wanted to do a nail with baby elephants but it’s totally up to you what you want on your nails.

Then I got out my thin tips and added the legs, noses and tails to the elephants. I would suggest doing one elephant at a time. In the pictures I’m doing them all at once to show how it’s done but the noses/feet/tails will blend better with the body of the elephant if you do it all in quick succession and then move on to the next nail and repeat the steps.

Next I took the opposite coloured thin tip to the body and added small dots on the feet for toes, a smile, eyes and the ear. Go slow with creating the ear, you don’t want your line to be too think. Rather start too thin and go over it a second time. Lastly I took my dotting tool out again and put an opposite coloured dot slightly over lapping the previous eye dot. There you go! All the hard stuff is done. Now just wait a few minutes and add a matte top coat to finish the look.

Hope you enjoy this elephant nail art!

This is so cute. I wish I had the patience (and time) to do this. My nails would be a conversational piece.
