There are many life skills that kids learn from having a yard sale.  All it takes is a little planning.

THE VALUE OF MONEY

It is never too soon to teach your children the value of a dollar and a garage sale is a perfect opportunity to do this.

Not only will your kids be able to learn how to price items and negotiate but they will also be able to put their math skills to the test!

HOW TO HELP

Involve your children in the entire process of having a yard sale.

Even little children can help put price tags on for sale items.

This can not only be fun for them but it can help to develop their fine motor skills.

As the day comes closer, your kids can help to sort, clean and organize items into separate piles.

On the big day, your children can help to set up and sell all the items.

Having a garage sale is a fantastic way to practice working together as a team, whether it’s a street-side sale or just a family yard sale.

From setting up the yard sale to putting everything away when it is all over, your children will have the chance to display their teamwork capabilities.

This will teach your children how to work together with the family.

After all, teamwork makes the dream work.

HOW TO LET GO

Parting with a once loved item can be difficult for anyone.

But when the item is no longer used or needed, it is just taking up unnecessary space.

This can be even more difficult for children with their toys.

Having a yard sale is an amazing way to teach children of all ages to go through their belongings and determine what they need.

Have them make separate piles, one to keep and one to sell.

Encourage them to make these choices independently.  Doing so will help them learn how to let go of things easier.

There are many life skills kids learn from having a yard sale.

Just make sure to give them the chance to work with the money to sharpen those math skills!
